As business strategists, our role is to help organisations develop and execute effective strategies to achieve your goals and stay competitive in the market. We work closely with business owners to understand and analyse the current state of the company. We identify opportunities and challenges, and formulate practical and effective strategic plans.
Strategic planning is the process of defining an organisation’s direction and making the informed decisions to best allocate resources in pursuit of that direction. It involves setting goals and objectives, assessing the internal and external environment, analysing strengths and weaknesses, identifying opportunities and threats, and developing strategies to achieve the desired outcomes.
Strategic Planning – Key steps:
The Where – Vision and Goal Setting: Establish specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals and objectives that align with the organisation’s Purpose and Values.
The Why – Purpose and Values: Clearly define the organisation’s Why. What is the Purpose of its existence? This is sometimes referred to as a mission statement. Supporting the Purpose are the company Values. Who are you? What do you stand for? What are your guiding principles? What expectations do you have of team behaviour?
Environmental Analysis: While formulating your organisation’s strategy, it is important to consider the external environment, including factors such as market trends, competition, technological advancements, political and regulatory landscape, and social and cultural factors. Additionally, consider and evaluate the internal environment, including the organisation’s strengths, weaknesses, resources, and capabilities.
Strategy Development: Identify potential strategies and courses of action to achieve the goals and objectives. This may involve considering different approaches and projects, such as market expansion, product diversification, cost leadership, strategic partnerships, or innovation.
Resource Allocation: Determine the necessary resources, including financial, human, and technological resources, required to implement the chosen strategies effectively.
Execution: Develop an Implementation Plan that outlines the steps, responsibilities, timelines, and milestones for executing the strategies. Communicate the plan throughout the organisation and assign accountability to individuals or teams.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuously monitor the progress of the strategic plan, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and evaluate the outcomes against the set goals. Make adjustments as needed based on the results and changing circumstances.
Review and Update: Regularly review and update the Strategic Plan to ensure its relevance and effectiveness in light of internal and external changes. Strategic planning is an ongoing process, not a one-off event. The Where and The Why Workshop package, includes two accountability check-ins to evaluate and celebrate your progress.
The Where And The Why Strategic planning workshop helps organisations align their activities and resources to achieve long-term success. It provides a framework for decision-making, helps prioritise actions, and promotes a proactive rather than reactive approach to managing the organisation’s future.
